The real subject

The Toyota Corolla Levin AE101 is a sports coupe of the start of the 1990s, that is the generation which followed on from a long line of light front-wheel-drive machines with good agility. In racing form it became a car for the touring categories: low-slung, with a strength cage in the cabin, wide wheels and a striking all-over livery. The model captures the machine in the colors of the Trust team, that is the Japanese brand associated with car tuning.

The Guia circuit in Macau

The Guia is a street circuit led along the ordinary streets of Macau: narrow, with differences in height, hemmed in by barriers and with no room for a mistake. That is exactly what made it one of the hardest tests of touring cars, where Japanese and European teams came together. A car from such a race therefore carries not only sponsor lettering on its body but also race numbers and markings you will not meet elsewhere.

Building and painting tips

With a racing car the body decides. Remove the joints and the traces of manufacture and sand the surface down with progressively finer papers, and only then apply the primer; every unevenness is brought out under glossy paint. Spray the paint in thin coats and let it mature properly. Mask the windows before spraying and build and paint the interior separately while it is still accessible. Apply the decals onto a glossy surface, and with large areas a softener helps so that the film seats over the shape transitions. Finally go over the whole with varnish and polish it.
