In the French army light infantry was intended for open-order fighting, for reconnaissance and for covering formations, that is, for tasks that called for rapid movement and the independence of smaller groups. In the Egyptian campaign the demands of the environment were added to that: heat, dust and a shortage of water led to modifications of clothing and to a different rhythm of marching. For a figure scene that means looser spacings and a naturally irregular composition.
The key to a convincing desert scene is dust done well. It is applied from the bottom up and gradually weakens, with most of it belonging on the boots and the calves, less on the thighs and only a suggestion higher up. Use very thin light ocher paint or a dry pigment applied with a soft brush and wipe the excess off. Lighten the base tones of the uniform slightly because of the harsh light, otherwise the characters will look like dark patches on a sandy base. Before painting, deburr the parting lines and apply primer, as soft plastic will not hold paint without a base. Join the parts and the bases with cyanoacrylate, as cement for polystyrene will not help.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, bases and terrain material are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
