This item is a detail accessory for a 1:24 scale kit of the Kübelwagen light off-road car, not a model in its own right. It replaces the kit wheels with castings carrying balloon tires, that is a wide, low-pressure casing of the kind used on these cars for driving in sand and soft terrain. The resin castings have a one-piece casing with no mold seam and a cleaner outline of tread and rim than plastic parts, which have to be sanded. The number of pieces in the package is stated on the box; the wheels are intended for Kübelwagen models in 1:24 scale.
The Kübelwagen was a light off-road car with an air-cooled engine mounted at the rear, derived in design from a civilian car. It was built during the Second World War and used in many roles as a liaison and reconnaissance vehicle. For service in sandy terrain wider balloon tires were fitted, which reduced the ground pressure.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove any mold release residue. On wheels the casting block usually runs along the contact patch of the tire — cut it off with a saw and level the surface wet, so that the car stands straight on all four wheels; protect your airways when sanding. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as plastic cement will not bond resin. Apply a primer, paint the tire in a dark gray shade instead of pure black and the rim to match the color of the car. Bring out the tread with a dry brush and dust the lower part of the wheel and the fenders with a light sand pigment if you are building the vehicle for sandy terrain.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
