About product

Ford Woody Pickup 1929 in 1:25 scale from AMT

A plastic kit of the American light utility vehicle of the 1929 model year in 1:25 scale, that is, in the classic scale of American car models. The number 1929 in the name is the model year of the car, not the scale. The Woody epithet refers to the wooden elements of the body, which were common on the utility versions of the day and which give the model its characteristic look.

The real subject

The 1929 model year falls within the era of the Ford Model A, the successor to the famous Model T, built at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s. It was a simple, rugged and inexpensive car with a tall body, wire-spoked wheels and a four-cylinder engine. The utility variants with a cargo bed were among the most widespread, and they are exactly the ones that later became a popular basis for American hot rods and modified cars.

Building and painting tips

Cars of this era have many thin, slender parts - fenders, running boards, the frame and the wheels. It pays to cut them off the sprue with a sharp knife or with nippers with a thin jaw and to sand the gate marks carefully, so the profile is not deformed. Assemble the frame on a flat surface and let it cure properly, or the model will not stand on all its wheels. You will manage the imitation of wood best by working from a light base to a darker glaze shade applied so as to create a wood grain. Paint the wire-spoked wheels and the chrome accessories separately before the final assembly. Glue with thin plastic cement applied into the joints.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of American cars of the 1920s and 1930s.
  • Modelers who want to try imitating wood.
  • Hot rod builders looking for a period basis.
  • Anyone who builds in the classic 1:25 scale.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It refers to the wooden elements of the body, typical of the utility and station-wagon body variants of the time. The model therefore offers room for imitating wood.

It is not; 1929 is the model year of the car. The scale of the kit is 1:25 and it is given at the start of the name.

Check the number of parts, the contents of the package and the extent of the decals on the packaging.

Cars of this era are the traditional basis of American hot rods. Check the range of building options in the instructions in the package.
