Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Oldsmobile 442 track car with race number 28 in the release of the 1980 season, that is, the car that was called the Gray Ghost for its restrained gray-silver paintwork. Buddy Baker sat behind the wheel. The maker of the kit is Salvinos J R Models; the model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The year 1980 is linked with this car above all because of its win in the opening race of the season on the oval at Daytona, which to this day holds the highest average speed ever reached in the whole history of that race. The car itself was a typical stock car of the turn of the 1970s and 1980s: a body derived from the production Oldsmobile, under it a tube frame, a live rear axle and a large-displacement V8. The restrained gray paintwork with no colorful markings is unmistakable among the cars of the time and is the main reason the model is so rewarding.
With a gray-silver body the shade and the gloss play the leading part, because nothing covers them up. Prime with a light primer, sand it smooth and spray the paint in thin layers; metallic shades also have to be stirred thoroughly before spraying, because the pigment settles to the bottom. Finish the interior with the cage and the seat before you fit the body. Lay the decals onto a glossy base and let decal softener settle them into the panel gaps. Choose the final clear coat according to the chemistry of the paint used, so that the shade does not dissolve.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
