An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Ford Mustang Mach 1 coupe of the 1971 model year in 1:25 scale. It is released by AMT, an American brand that has devoted itself to models of domestic cars for decades and which lists this box in an edition referring to James Bond on film. The parts are on injection-molded sprues, and the modeler builds and paints the model.
The 1971 model year meant the greatest change of body for the Mustang within the first generation. The car grew in length and width, received a markedly raked windshield and the flat tail of the SportsRoof body version. The Mach 1 level was the sporting peak of the range: a matte black hood with cooling vents, a front spoiler, side lettering and V8 engines as standard. It was precisely the red 1971 Mach 1 that appeared in the Bond film Diamonds Are Forever and in the night chase through the streets of Las Vegas, which made it one of the best-known American film cars.
The body of an American car lives off a smooth gloss finish. It pays to sand down the parting lines before painting, spray on a filler primer and apply the paint in several thin coats. Decals behave best on a gloss base, and once dry it is advisable to go over the whole surface with clear varnish. Nip the chrome parts off the sprue carefully and glue them with a smaller amount of cement, or with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), so that the gloss layer is not damaged. On models in 1:25 the interior is clearly visible through the large windows, so the time spent on the seats and the dashboard pays off.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
