This is not a kit but a small accessory for figures and dioramas. The set offers the Italian Mod. 33 pattern steel helmet in 1:72 scale, that is in a size where ordinary figures tend to have their headgear only suggested. A separate helmet suits a replacement, or being set beside a figure or on a crate, a seat or the fender of a vehicle. You will find the number of pieces in the package and the material of the part on its box.
The Italian army adopted the Elmetto Mod. 33 in 1933 as a replacement for an older French-type helmet. The shape with its smooth shell and gently drawn-in brim runs through the whole Second World War, from the desert fighting in North Africa through the Greek and Yugoslav campaigns to the units committed on the Eastern Front. The helmet outlived the end of the war and in a modernized form served the Italian and other armed forces for several postwar decades.
In 1:72 scale the part is truly tiny, so work with it over a tray with a raised edge so that it does not get away from you. Separate it with a sharp knife, sand the small face left by the cut with fine paper and wash the surface before painting. Super glue holds better on parts this small than cement for plastic. Apply the paint in thin layers so that the fine edges do not get flooded, and pick the shape out with a lighter dry brush around the rim of the shell. A dark wash needs to be used very sparingly, otherwise a small part grows visually heavy.
