About product

Flat Spherical Rivet 1.2 mm: GAS HANS flattened round-head rivets

Rivets with a flattened round head in the 1.2 mm size from the range of small modeling material of the GAS HANS brand. The shape of the head stands somewhere between the full round and the entirely flat variant: the profile is lower, but the edge stays rounded, so on the surface the rivet creates a soft transition instead of a sharp step. It is not a kit but an accessory with which riveted joints on a model are added to or replaced.

When to reach for the flattened variant

  • surfaces where a rivet should be noticeable but should not dominate
  • panels and hatches which in reality were walked on or had something fastened to them
  • a combination with taller round-head rivets to tell different types of joint on one vehicle apart
  • conversions and diorama elements where a finer surface texture is what matters

Installation tips

A lower head forgives small inaccuracies in placement, but it is harder to catch with tweezers, so it pays to work under good light and on a surface a tiny part cannot roll off. Sand the surface beforehand and get the dust off it. Because the flattened shape does not cast as pronounced a shadow as a full sphere, the surface gets its character chiefly from the painting: use a wash to bring out the outline of the head and only then any matte coats. Try the arrangement dry first so that you know how much room will be left on the surface.

Who the set is for

For modelers who want more shapes of rivet head to hand and want to use them to tell individual types of joint on one model apart. It suits builders of armored vehicles, the authors of their own parts and diorama scenes.

FAQ

A flattened head has a lower profile and a softer transition to the surface. It is noticeable, but it does not cast as pronounced a shadow as a full round head.

Neither. It is an add-on material that is seated on the parts of your own model.

This whole range of rivets gives no scale. The size is chosen according to the real subject and according to how conspicuous the rivet is meant to be on the model.

A wash that traces the outline of the head helps them most. Without that emphasis they can disappear under a heavier coat of paint.
