A set of miniature rivets with a flat spherical head 1.4 mm in size. The low spherical shape matches the ordinary pressed rivet you find on sheet-metal beds, tanks, sheet covers, frames or on bridge and building structures in a diorama. It is neither a model nor a kit but modeling material for detailing: you seat the rivets on the model yourself, wherever you need them.
When it comes in handy
There are two common uses. Either the kit has no riveting at all, or you lose it while sanding the joints, where the rivets get rubbed away along with the excess glue. Filling them in by hand rivet by rivet takes more work than a riveting wheel, but the result is raised and, seen close up and under a hard light, it looks markedly better than an engraved dimple.
The size is not a scale
The 1.4 mm figure is the real size of the part, not the scale of a model. The range is graded from tenths of a millimeter upward, so choose the size according to how big the rivet is meant to look on the finished model.
First level the surface and take off any remains of the original detail with a scalpel held flat. Draw the spacing out beforehand with a fine pencil or stick a strip of masking tape on the surface as a guide; an irregular row of rivets is more noticeable on a finished model than none at all. Transfer the individual rivets with a moistened toothpick or with tweezers and fix them with a minimum of thin cyanoacrylate glue offered up from the side, so that the glue does not flood the spherical head and knock the raised shape down. Once dry, degrease the surface and lay on a primer; the finished riveting then comes out well after a dry-brush or a light wash.
This is accessory material, not a model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
