The 1:32 A-1J Skyraider wheels and paint masks set from the maker Aires brings resin wheels for a model of the Douglas A-1J Skyraider ground attack airplane in 1:32 scale together with masks for painting them. It is an accessory to a kit, not an airplane model.

In the large scales wheels tend to be the weak point even of otherwise successful kits. The plastic parts are split, with a parting line across the whole tread and with a pattern that is lost during cleaning up. Aires adds a second problem to that: separating the color of the tire from the hub with a brush is thankless work in 1:32 scale. This set deals with both at once, because it holds cast wheels and masks for painting them. A model of the airplane is not part of the package.
The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was a single-seat ground attack airplane with a radial piston engine, which came about at the end of the Second World War and lasted substantially longer in service than most of its contemporaries. It was valued for the enormous load of stores it could carry, for its long loiter time over a battlefield and for its ability to take a hit. The A-1J version, earlier designated AD-7, was the last variant built in series. Given the weight of the machine and its operations from improvised surfaces, the load on the tires is precisely the detail worth capturing on a model.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap and let them dry. On wheels the casting block tends to be placed where the tire meets the ground, so cutting it off suggests the load at the same time; polish the surface with a sanding sponge. Stick the masks on only once the base shade is perfectly dry, press them down with a fingernail around the whole circumference and only then spray the second color; when removing a mask, pull it away across the edge at an angle, not straight up. Leave the color of the tires dark gray rather than black, as pure black looks unnatural in scale. Finally add dust pigment into the pattern.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
