This item is not an airplane model but a set of pre-cut painting masks from the manufacturer Eduard. The masks are stuck straight onto the clear part of the model and define the areas that are to stay transparent, while the glazing frames are sprayed with paint. That does away with the most tedious part of working on a cockpit: cutting strips from masking tape by hand, measuring out and guessing whether the edge is straight. The masks have a shape derived from the particular part, so they sit on the frame and the paint edge is sharp.
The Douglas A-20 Havoc was an American twin-engine attack and bomber aircraft. The A-20G version did not have a glazed nose for a navigator but a solid nose with gun armament, because it was intended for attacks on ground targets from low altitude. The glazed pilot's canopy and the gun positions behind it make the model in 1:32 scale a fairly demanding piece to mask.
First wash the clear part and let it dry perfectly; grease from your fingers holds a mask worse than a clean surface. Lift the mask off the sheet with pointed tweezers or a wooden stick, seat it in place and press the edges down with a toothpick, so that no paint gets under the edge. Spray the paint in thin coats; one heavy coat is drawn under the edge of the mask more easily than two fine ones. Take the mask off while the paint is freshly dried, not after several days, when the edge goes brittle and may tear away. On intricately shaped surfaces it helps to warm the mask lightly once it is in place.
The masks are an accessory to a plastic kit. The model itself and the paints are not part of the package.
