A plastic kit of the four-engine heavy bomber B-24J Liberator in 1:32 scale from Hobby Boss. It is one of the largest aircraft kits in the ordinary range: the span of the finished model is over one meter and the length comes close to seventy centimeters. The set rests on new molds and holds several hundred parts on two dozen sprues, a well worked out pilot's cockpit and interior fittings, photo-etched parts, rubber tires and detailed landing gear.
The Consolidated B-24 Liberator was an American four-engine heavy bomber with a high-mounted slender wing, twin vertical tail surfaces and a roomy bomb bay with roller shutter doors. Against contemporary aircraft it offered greater range and load. The J version was the most numerous form of the type and was built as standard with a powered nose gun turret, among other things. Over eighteen thousand Liberators were built in all, which made the type the most numerously produced American military aircraft and the most numerous Allied heavy bomber of the war.
Before you start, think about the space: the finished model needs a display case or a shelf of matching size. Paint the complete interior, accent it and fit belts if you wish before you close the fuselage, because afterward most of the work is invisible. Glue the wing of great span in stages and let it cure in position, watching the dihedral. On a model with nosewheel landing gear, check the balance dry and add nose weight if needed, so that the model does not sit back on its tail. The classic form is an unpainted aluminum finish, which calls for a perfectly smooth surface and ideally lacquer metallic paints laid on with an airbrush panel by panel.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
