A collector's figure of a British pilot from the years of the First World War in 1:32 scale from the brand Black Dog. A human figure belongs in a large aviation scale as much as a matter of course as a propeller: only beside a person does it show on a biplane how low the cockpit sits and how slender the whole airframe really was.
The most natural place is a grassy airfield surface with a period biplane, a canvas shelter and a few wooden crates. A figure by the root of the lower wing, by the wheeled landing gear or among the struts will populate a scene at once. The British squadrons of that time took off from makeshift field airfields, so low grass, worn ruts and a tarpaulin stretched over a fuselage are enough for a scene.
If you set about painting, start with a thin base coat in a neutral shade, so that the seams do not come up under the further layers. The leather parts of the flying gear will bear a dark brown base brightened with a dry brush, while fabric, on the contrary, stands out when a thin dark shade is let run into the folds. Handle the face in three steps: a middle skin tone, a darker shadow in the eye sockets and under the chin, a lighter touch on the forehead and the cheekbones.
