This is not a kit of the aircraft, but a resin accessory to one, intended for more experienced modelers. The cockpit set replaces the interior, that is, the most closely watched place on a model in a large scale, as under an open canopy practically everything is visible. The resin casting carries a fine relief of the side walls, the controls and the instruments that cannot be got into injection-molded plastic.
The Douglas Skyraider was a single-engine attack aircraft with a radial piston engine and an exceptional carrying capacity on its external racks. It came about at the end of the Second World War as a carrier-based attack machine, but thanks to its ability to loiter long over the battlefield and to carry a heavy load of weapons it served well into the era of jet aircraft. The A-1J version is among the late single-seat configurations, which came about after the designations of American aviation equipment were unified at the beginning of the 1960s. The cockpit of these machines is fairly roomy and richly equipped, which makes it a rewarding target for a detailing set.
First wash the resin parts in warm soapy water, so that the mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the mating surfaces on sanding paper; sand with respiratory protection, best of all wet. Count on the inner walls of the fuselage most likely needing to be thinned, so that the cockpit will sit into the fuselage: test dry and remove material step by step. Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Paint the cockpit and finish it completely, including the weathering, before you close the fuselage up. Bring the instruments and the controls out with a dark wash and with a dry brush, and add belts to the seat according to the documentation.
The accessory is supplied unpainted as a resin casting. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
