The F-105 Thunderchief, nicknamed the Thud, was a single-engined fighter-bomber of the US Air Force. The F-105D version was the all-weather variant equipped with radar for strikes in any weather. It was one of the largest single-engined combat aircraft of its day and during the Vietnam War it bore the main weight of the strikes against North Vietnamese targets. It could carry an extensive load of bombs and rockets and it also had an internal cannon.
Paint the detailed cockpit and the landing gear bays before the airframe is closed up. Mask the clear canopy and glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. Apply a primer and the paints with an airbrush - for the schemes of the Vietnam War a three-color camouflage and the shine of bare metal are both suitable. Add the underwing stores only at the end and bring out the panel lines with a wash. On large sets Trumpeter often supplies rubber tires and small photo-etched parts to refine the detail; the tires can be replaced by resin ones for a more accurate shape.
