This item is not a model of an aircraft, but a replacement resin part for the cockpit. It is an instrument panel for models of the North American F-86F Sabre fighter in 1:32 scale. A resin casting will offer sharper outlines of the individual instruments and deeper relief than the mass-produced plastic part usually has, and in a large scale the instrument panel is the most conspicuous part of the cockpit.
The North American F-86 Sabre was a single-engine fighter with a swept wing, and it was among the first production machines of its category on the Western side. The F version was a day fighter variant with a more powerful engine and, on the later production blocks, with a reworked wing leading edge as well, which improved the behavior at high speeds. The cockpit of the Sabre is fairly open at the front and with the canopy raised the instrument panel is clearly visible.
Wash the casting with lukewarm soapy water, so that no mold release agent is left on the surface. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw and sand the surface down; when sanding resin, work wet and protect your airways. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the instrument panel while it is still outside the model: the base in a dark matte color, the dials with a dry brush or a fine stroke of a light color, and finally a drop of gloss varnish in the instrument glasses, so that the impression of glazing arises. A dry fit into the fuselage before gluing pays off, as a resin part tends to be somewhat thicker than the plastic original.
