The masking of the cockpit is arranged from the outside as well as the inside, the set holds two insignia sets and a pair of metal machine gun muzzles. Intended for a large model of the late Focke-Wulf with the V engine.
Responsibility details are not available.
The first unit to re-equip with the late Focke-Wulfs with the V engine was Jagdgeschwader 26 in the autumn of 1944. Some of the machines ended up with special flights whose task was to guard the surroundings of the airfields of the jet Messerschmitts; those were almost defenseless during takeoff and landing and the fighters circled above them like a living fence. So that their own anti-aircraft defense would not fire at them, the lower surfaces were given conspicuous red and white striping, after which the machines came to be nicknamed after parrots. In January 1945 hundreds of these aircraft took part in a mass strike on Allied airfields in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Films for the glazing for both sides, two sets of national insignia and two turned metal pieces representing the muzzles of the 13 mm machine guns.
Matte paint scatters light; a metal surface returns it in a narrow band along an edge. On a model such a reflection is almost always unwanted, because it gives the scale away. The muzzle of a weapon, however, is one of the few places where a reflection helps: the eye reads it as a view into a dark opening with a thin light rim, and that is exactly how a real barrel looks. It therefore pays not to paint the metal part over fully but only to darken it and let the rim of the muzzle stand out.
First build and paint the whole model, including the final protective coat. Leave the drilling of the holes to the very end and do it by hand so that the surrounding paint does not fray. The metal pieces then only have to be inserted and secured with a minute amount of cyanoacrylate applied to the shank, not into the hole.
