The Fw 190A-8 of 1944 is the culmination of the whole A series. The BMW 801D-2 engine, injection of a methanol and water mixture for a short-term gain in power, a relocated fuel supply and a universal rack under the fuselage. It was these machines that made up the so-called Sturmbocke, heavily armed and armored aircraft whose task was to get in close to a bomber formation. The sliding canopy with its prominent armored headrest gives the cockpit a profile that cannot be mistaken for anything else.
German markings fall into two groups and each calls for a different technology. The fuselage cross and the wing crosses are large, geometrically precise and made of several parts, that is exactly what is worth spraying through film. Squadron tactical markings, unit color bands and personal emblems, on the other hand, are irregular and often multi-colored, and those belong to a decal. The set contains both, so the work can be done in stages.
Camouflage first, then the sprayed crosses, then a gloss intermediate coat and only onto that the decals, and finally a matte finish that joins the two into one surface. If the order is reversed and a decal comes before spraying, the film rubs against it and the edge is damaged. And one more practical note about the armored headrest behind the pilot: it covers part of the glazing, so the mask is divided at that point and both parts have to be seated separately, otherwise a folded edge arises. The aircraft model is not in the set.
