German fighter pilots of 1914 to 1918 flew in open cockpits, where frost and a steady stream of air prevailed at altitude. That is where their typical look comes from: a leather coat or jacket with a high collar, a leather flying helmet, goggles and a scarf, which protected the neck during the constant turning after an opponent. High boots and gloves belonged to the gear just as much as a matter of course.
A figure of a German fighter pilot from the First World War in 1:32 scale, carried in the line of the same subject as number four. The scale is a rewarding one for a figure: at this size the face and the division of the clothing can be worked out, and at the same time the figure matches models of aircraft of the same scale in size.
Wash the figure and degrease it before painting, otherwise the paint holds badly on a smooth surface. Then go over it with a base coat, on which the shape of the surface only then stands out. Build the leather of the clothing from a darker tone toward a lighter one: lay the base down over the whole area, deepen the folds with thin dark paint and brighten the edges instead. Leave the face until the end, because it decides the overall impression. Paint the eyes with the thinnest brush and rather only suggest them; an exaggeratedly large pupil spoils a figure.
The figure is for builders of First World War aircraft in 1:32 scale and for collectors of figures. A figure placed beside an aircraft gives the model its scale and the scene its action, because the viewer realizes at once how small a machine it really was. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
