On aircraft with a radial engine the carburetor intake is a small but visually prominent component on the lower or the side part of the cowling. The plastic part from a mold usually has a blanked-off or merely suggested entry opening and a thick rim wall, because otherwise it could not be released from the mold. A resin casting can really open the opening up and thin the wall down, so the intake looks like an intake and not like a dimple. In the large 1:32 scale this difference is clearly visible. The Gloster Gladiator was a British fighter biplane of the second half of the 1930s, the last of its kind in service, and its cowling belongs among the most closely watched areas of a model.
Wash the part in lukewarm water with dish soap because of the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a fine cutting disc and polish the surface wet; resin dust is fine, so work with respiratory protection. Cut the original plastic intake off and level the mating surface, so that the new component adheres over its whole area. It is glued with superglue in a small quantity. Darken the inside of the opening before gluing — after that a brush can no longer reach in there. Fit the part after the main painting of the cowling, so that the surrounding area does not have to be masked again.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, please check that the type B variant matches your build.
