Art Scale 1:32 Gloster Gladiator, double-sided masking set is a set of pre-cut masks for spraying the canopy framing and other sharply bounded areas on a model of the British biplane. It is not a kit but an accessory for a build. Intended for the Revell and ICM kits.

The set contains masks cut to the outline of the clear parts of the Gloster Gladiator model in 1:32 scale. In itself it is neither a model nor a kit, but an aid that replaces the laborious trimming of masking tape with a knife directly on the finished part. The shapes are cut for the Revell and ICM kits, so they line up with the engraved framing and the paint edge comes out sharp even where the frame is narrow or curved. The double-sided designation means that the set allows for masking the clear part from the outside and from the inside, which comes in handy when the frames inside the cockpit are sprayed in the interior color.
The real subject
The Gloster Gladiator was the last biplane fighter in Royal Air Force service. It was powered by a Bristol Mercury radial engine, had fixed landing gear and, unlike older biplanes, an enclosed cockpit with glazing that is the most demanding part of the model to mask. It served at the turn of the 1930s and 1940s and was used by several other countries as well.
Wash and degrease the clear part first, otherwise the mask will not hold. Lift the individual parts off the sheet with a sharp point or tweezers and lay them down so that the edge lines up with the engraved frame. Work the pressure from the center outward so that no air stays under the mask, and go over the edges once more with a toothpick; that is exactly where it is decided whether the paint edge will be clean. Spray in thin coats and preferably in several passes; a heavy coat tends to peel when the mask is lifted. The usual order is the interior color, then the primer and the covering shade of the exterior. Lift the mask as soon as the paint has dried to the point where it does not smear but is not yet fully cured. Remove any glue residue with a mild product that will not attack clear plastic, and never with an aggressive thinner.
It is a masking accessory for a build, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
