Photo-etched accessory parts in 1:32 scale for a model of the American carrier fighter Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat. Metal sheet replaces plastic features that could not be made to a true thickness.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was an American single-engine carrier fighter of the Second World War, deployed above all in the Pacific. It was built ruggedly, with a roomy cockpit set high above the fuselage and folding wings so that the machine would fit into carrier hangars. The F6F-3 version is the first production form of the type. A model in the large 1:32 scale shows things about such an aircraft that disappear in smaller scales, and that is exactly where photo-etched accessories come in.
The set brings accessory parts etched from thin metal sheet. Photo-etching makes it possible to produce features in a thickness that injection-molded plastic cannot come anywhere near for manufacturing reasons: instrument panels, seat belts, levers, grilles, latches and small flat stiffeners. What exactly the fret carries, and which kit it is laid out for, is given in the manufacturer's instructions, so check that it matches your own model in advance.
Separate the features with a sharp blade on a hard surface; nippers would bend the thin sheet. Sand the remainder away with a fine file. Make the fold along the etched groove on the back of the part, over a sharp edge or in a bender. They are bonded with a minute amount of super glue. Degrease the metal before painting and give it a coat of primer, or the finish will not hold on the smooth surface. Prepare the small parts on a light surface, so that you can find them if they jump out of your tweezers.
The model, glue and paints are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
