1:32 Ki-45 Toryu Closed Canopy from Dead Design is a masking set for the frames of the closed canopy of the Japanese twin-engine heavy fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set meant for the long glazing of the two-seat Kawasaki Ki-45. The variant in the name says that this is the closed position of the canopy, that is, for a build with the sliding section seated in place. The Toryu has a glazed tunnel above the cockpit running over both seats, where the frames run into dozens and cutting tape by hand would take more time than all the rest of the painting put together. In the large 1:32 scale, moreover, every inaccuracy shows straight away.
The Kawasaki Ki-45 Toryu was a twin-engine heavy fighter of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force, known to the Allies by the name Nick. Its original role as an escort fighter did not suit it well, but it proved itself against bomber formations and in night interceptions over the Japanese home islands. The rear crew member operated a flexible gun and had a clear view aft under the glazing, which is precisely the part of the cockpit that the masking deals with.
Apply them to a degreased, dry surface and press the edge down with a pointed wooden stick so that paint does not creep under it. Spray the cockpit interior shade first and only then the outer camouflage, otherwise on a closed canopy the frame shows through in a different color from the one it should have. Lift the masks before the paint has fully cured, and the edge will stay sharp.
