The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is a fighter of the second half of the 1950s, built around speed and rate of climb. You will recognize it at first glance: a long slender fuselage, a short thin trapezoidal wing with very sharp edges and a horizontal tail surface set right on top of the fin. It was powered by a single jet engine. The F-104A version was the first production rendition for the US Air Force. Early machines had an ejection seat that fired the pilot downward beneath the aircraft; later a seat firing upward was adopted, and with it the equipment of the cockpit changed as well.
The set aims at the cockpit, that is the place most visible in the large 1:32 scale, especially when the canopy is left open. The rendition matches the later machines. The exact make-up of the parts and the extent of the reworking of the fuselage are in the manufacturer's instructions.
Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and carefully sand the rest off. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint holds badly on them. Finish and paint the cockpit before you glue the fuselage halves together, because afterwards it can no longer be reached. It pays to keep trying dry how much material still has to be taken off, so that the parts seat into the fuselage. The broken-up detail is brought out by a dark wash into the recesses and a light dry brush along the edges.
For modelers who are building the Starfighter in a large scale and want a richer cockpit than the basic kit offers. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
