Masks for the extensive glazing of the Westland Lysander Mk. III in 1:32 scale, complemented by three national insignia masks.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Westland Lysander was a liaison and reconnaissance high-wing aircraft with a famously short takeoff. It made its name with something else, though: at night it put agents down on improvised fields in occupied France and carried them away again. For that it needed a view, and it got one in the form of exceptionally extensive glazing that runs from the windscreen to behind the rear seat and continues down the sides below the level of the crew's shoulders.
The glazing consists mostly of fixed panes set into the frame, not sliding sections. The inside therefore stays hidden behind the frames and it pays to mask from the outside. The contents of the set match that: one layer of parts for the canopy and, with it, three masks for spraying the insignia. The paper carrier can be laid without folds even into the gently domed side panes, where ordinary tape would form fans.
During the build it helps to spray the interior shade of the frame first, because with a glazed area this large the color of the frames shows through. Lay the mask from the center toward the edges and press it down with a wooden stick, not with a fingernail. The set is intended for painting a finished model; you will find neither moldings nor decals for the fuselage inscriptions in it.
