Corrected vertical tail for the MiG-23MF/MLD in 1:32 scale

A resin correction set from the Czech manufacturer Aires that replaces the vertical tail on the MiG-23 model in the MF and MLD versions in 1:32 scale with an accurately shaped casting. The fin with its rudder is one of the most characteristic areas of the MiG-23, and if its outline or section is inaccurate on a large model it shows from every angle. The casting offers the correct shapes and finely engraved surface detail.

The real subject

The MiG-23 was a Soviet fighter with a variable-geometry wing and the mainstay type of the tactical air arm of the 1970s and 1980s. The MF version was the widespread export form, flying with the Czechoslovak Air Force among others, while the MLD was the top modernized variant of the fighter line. The massive fin area with a folding ventral fin gave the machine stability across the whole speed range.

Building tips

Cut the kit tail away as the set's instructions direct and test the joint with the fuselage dry. Wash the resin part to remove the mold release agent, bond it with super glue, then fill and sand the transition into the fuselage. If sanding has blurred the engraved detail, restore it with a scriber. Protect your airways when working with resin dust.
