A resin accessory from the Czech manufacturer Aires in 1:32 scale for the MiG-23MLD fighter. It is the block of the chaff and flare dispenser, that is, the device that releases chaff and flares in flight to disrupt the guidance of anti-aircraft weapons. The form is, according to the name, covered. It is not an aircraft model but a detail accessory for a kit bought separately. The manufacturer offers this unit in several forms, so when ordering, check that you are choosing the one you want to use on your model.
The MiG-23 was a single-engine fighter with a variable-geometry wing whose sweep angle the pilot set according to the flight regime. The MLD version represented a late development stage with changes to the airframe and the equipment that improved agility and capability in a turning fight. Jamming and decoy systems were standard equipment on this generation of aircraft and their installation is clearly apparent on the real machine, so on a model in a large scale it pays to render it faithfully.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release residue comes off the surface, otherwise paint will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-bladed saw or sand them away, and never snap them off. Wear a respirator when sanding resin and work dry only briefly; sanding under water is better. It is bonded with super glue, as cement for plastic has no effect on resin. Apply primer before painting and check the seating of the part dry, as a little sanding of the recess is common with accessories.
