This is a decal set for a model of the MiG-29A fighter in production version 9-12 in 1:32 scale. It is not a kit or a finished model but an accessory that is applied to kit parts which have already been built and painted. Decals with a three-dimensional effect add color and depth where the detail on the plastic is only suggested.
The MiG-29 is a twin-engine fighter with a pair of vertical tail surfaces and characteristic upper air intakes for taxiing on the ground. Version 9-12 is the basic single-seat form from which the other variants grew. The cockpit of this generation uses conventional instruments, without the large displays of later upgrades, so colored detail on a small area changes the overall impression of a model considerably.
The base coat is what decides the result. First paint the surface and overcoat it with gloss varnish: on a matte surface microscopic air bubbles remain under the film and the edge of the decal takes on a silvery look. Release the decal in lukewarm water, move it into place, align it and carefully blot up the excess water. On curved surfaces a decal softener applied in small doses helps; do not move the set until it has dried. At the end unify the surface with a varnish according to how glossy you want the result.
The set replaces the flat kit parts: instead of engraved or merely suggested relief you get a colored and three-dimensional-looking surface without brush-painting tiny areas. It is a good idea to degrease the plastic before application and to level any coarse molded relief, so that the decal settles over its whole area.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. Paints, glue and decal softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
