It contains a casting of a traditional Vietnamese conical hat, which in modeling practice is used on civilian figures, in rural scenes and as a set-aside object on the base of a diorama. It is fitted directly onto a figure's head or is laid down loose as part of the setting.
The Vietnamese conical hat is woven from palm leaves or from reed fibers stretched over a circular bamboo frame. It has a regular cone with a smooth slope and a wide edge, which shades the face and the shoulders and leads rainwater away from the body. Inside there tends to be a textile band or a cord with which the hat was tied under the chin. It is an everyday object of daily use, not an item of equipment — in a scene it therefore works above all as a mark of place and way of life, and as such it gives a figure a civilian rather than a military effect.
Separate the casting from the casting block with a fine saw and level the surface left after the cut with a file, so that the hat seats on the head with no gap. Try the fit dry; glue resin parts with super glue, because glue for plastic does not hold on them. Before painting, wash the casting in lukewarm water with a detergent because of the release agent from the mold. Paint matte, in light ocher and straw tones; a thin brown wash and fine dry brushing, which draws the texture of the weave out, will give a natural look. Irregular darker patches at the edge come across more credibly than an even surface, because a real hat ages unevenly.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a figure. Paints, glue and further parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
