The Mitsubishi A6M5c landing gear bay masks 1:32 are cut to the shape of a particular bay, so it pays to lay them on dry before applying them.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set for the landing gear bays of a Mitsubishi A6M5c model in 1:32 scale. It is not a kit and not a part that would be visible on the model: they are self-adhesive templates that close off the painted interior of the bay while the outer surface is sprayed.
Die-cut templates are not universal
A landing gear bay mask lives off the fact that its outline matches the outline of the opening in the part. That is why it pays to lay it on dry first, check whether it lines up with the edge, and only then peel off the backing. A piece that lines up on three sides only can still be seated better; once it has been applied and pulled off, it holds worse. With sets tied to the shape of a particular part, this step matters more than with general tape masking.
The order of painting
The interior of the bay has a different shade on a model from the outer surfaces of the airframe, so it is sprayed first. Once it has dried through, it is covered with the mask and only then does the top coat go onto the model. The reverse order means finishing a deep opening with a brush over a completed surface, which shows in a large scale.
Press the perimeter of the template down with a toothpick or the blunt tip of a pair of tweezers; you will not reach the corners with a finger. Spray at lower pressure and in shorter bursts, so that the paint does not look for a way under the edge. Take the mask off once the varnish has set, while the layer is still flexible.
