A sizable injection-molded plastic kit of the legendary American North American P-51D Mustang fighter in the premium 1:32 scale from the Japanese company Tamiya. It is a large, superbly executed kit: it offers a finely rendered Packard Merlin V-1650 engine under removable cowlings, parts for the early and the late configuration (two rear-fuselage variants, with and without the dorsal fin, and three canopy types), movable control surfaces and photo-etched parts. A stand for displaying the aircraft in flight is also enclosed.
The P-51D Mustang was an American single-seat fighter of the Second World War and one of the most successful fighters of its day. The iconic bubble canopy gave the pilot all-round vision. Thanks to the license-built Packard Merlin engine and its great range (especially with drop tanks) the Mustang could escort heavy bombers on long-range raids deep over enemy territory. Its high speed, ceiling and range made it a legend of the closing part of the war and of the postwar years.
A large, detailed kit rewards care. Assemble and paint the engine and the cockpit before you close the fuselage and fit the cowlings. Bond the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and the plastic with liquid cement for plastic. A number of Mustangs flew in a natural metal finish, so count on a glossy metal surface: apply a smooth gloss black base and use metallic paint or imitate the metal with paint. Mix the metallic paint thoroughly (the pigment sinks to the bottom) and apply it on a smooth base at the very end, because it is harder to overspray and to mask. Protect the glazing with masks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
