A sheet of national insignia and technical lettering in 1:32 for American P-47 fighters. It holds variants of the star in a circle with and without bars, along with service lettering that suits any model of this type.
Responsibility details are not available.
American national insignia changed several times during the war, and anyone building a fighter from a particular photograph needs exactly the variant that appears in it. First the plain star in a blue circle was in play; in the middle of 1943 white bars at the sides were added, and with them a red surround, which after a few weeks disappeared again in favor of a blue one. This sheet gives a modeler all the necessary forms at once, and along with them a set of technical lettering of the kind that appeared on a machine around filler points, on the wing and near moving parts.
The practical advantage of a sheet like this is a reserve. Individual finishes usually bring only as many markings as a given machine has, so if you make a mistake you have no replacement. From here you take only what you need and the rest stays for another build. The lettering is small, so cut it out as close to the artwork as possible and lay it down with tweezers with soft jaws, so that the edge of the film does not crack. Before starting, lay out on paper where each piece of lettering is to go. The placement of service lettering differed slightly between production series, so a photograph of your machine from the period is a better guide than a general diagram.
