This detail set replaces the landing gear bays of a model of the North American P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:32 scale with faithfully cast resin parts. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for a kit, meant for experienced modelers. The maker is the Czech company Aires. The resin bays bring a rich structure of ribs, piping and rivets that injection-molded plastic often simplifies.
The North American P-51D Mustang was an American single-seat fighter of the Second World War with a V12 Merlin engine. The retractable landing gear folded into the wing, so open gear bays are a clearly visible detail on a model.
Wash the resin parts to remove mold release residue, cut off the casting blocks and sand the surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the parts with super glue. It is worth painting and weathering the bays with a wash before they go into the wing.
