The Mustang from the Dallas line

The letter K set apart the machines that North American built in Dallas, Texas. In design terms it was the same fighter aircraft as the P-51D, except that it received an Aeroproducts propeller with hollow steel blades and a slightly smaller diameter, because deliveries from Hamilton Standard were not enough. Around fifteen hundred examples came off the line. A large part of them went to the Royal Air Force under the designation Mustang Mk.IVA, while others were completed as photo-reconnaissance F-6Ks and mapped targets over Burma and southern China.

What is inside

The package carries color-printed self-adhesive parts of the cabin: the front panel with three-dimensionally raised dials, the side walls, the handles and the seat straps. The dials have a glossy surface which imitates the cover glass of an instrument, and the scales stay readable even under a magnifier. Once stuck on, the interior looks like a miniature of a real instrument wall, without your reaching for a fine-haired brush. Mixing shades drops away as well, because all the colors are printed straight from production.

Which kit it fits

The outlines are traced from the plastic parts of the Super Wing Series line, where Zoukei-Mura offers the D and K variants in one package. The model itself is bought separately.

The procedure is undemanding. First free the plastic of grease, then lift the part out of the sheet with tweezers and press it down with a soft stick. Nothing is mixed, nothing dries out and you need neither glue nor a bending tool. That is precisely why the set suits even a modeler who still avoids photo-etched parts. A finished cabin will stand up to a close look and to macro photography, which counts twice over at a large scale.
