1:144 Armstrong Whitworth Argosy RAF is a plastic kit of the British transport aircraft in its military form from Mikro Mir.
Responsibility details are not available.
A short-run injection-molded kit of a four-engine turboprop transport aircraft in 1:144 scale, in the military form of the Royal Air Force. The 1:144 scale is an advantage with large transport machines, because the model stays reasonably sized for a display case.
The Argosy was a British transport aircraft with a characteristic layout: a boxy cargo fuselage, a high-mounted wing with four turboprop engines and a pair of booms carrying the tail surfaces. That arrangement freed the rear of the fuselage for cargo doors, which made loading bulky cargo and air-dropping easier. The military version served the Royal Air Force as a tactical transport machine from the 1960s, and for its sound it earned the nickname Whistling Wheelbarrow. The aircraft were deployed to carry cargo and personnel and for parachute training.
The twin tail booms call for attention during the build: glue the assembly on a flat surface and keep checking the symmetry and the angles, so that the tail is not twisted. Leave the engine nacelles and the propellers until the end. It is a good idea to sand the large fuselage surfaces first and spray them with filler primer, because the joints on short-run moldings tend to be more pronounced. Apply the military camouflage scheme with an airbrush and soft transitions, and lay the decals on a gloss base so that no silvery edge appears.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
