A masking set for a model of the Polish two-seat F-16D in the bold red rendition carrying the NTM 2013 designation, 1:32 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-16D is the two-seat version of the F-16 multirole combat aircraft; the second crew member sits in tandem behind the pilot and the cockpit is therefore markedly longer than on the single-seat version. The Polish Air Force operates these machines alongside the single-seaters, and the set aims at an example in the bold red rendition that carries the NTM 2013 designation in the name.
A bold color scheme is demanding precisely on the boundaries between areas. A mask defines where the paint may go, holds along the whole length of the edge and does not wrinkle even on the curves. With a two-seat cockpit that goes double: the glazing is longer, there are more frames and a run of paint in one place spoils the whole impression. The masks are stuck down before spraying and are removed once the paint has dried.
Degrease the surface, lay the mask on dry first and check the position. A bold color is applied in several thin coats, because one thick coat readily runs under the edge and the line is blurred. Before a saturated color it pays to unify the base with a primer, or the shade will vary across the area. Remove the mask with tweezers at a sharp angle and correct any small run with a brush before you go over the paint with varnish. The layout of the individual pieces is given by the manufacturer's instructions.
For builders of large F-16 models who want to build an unmissable two-seater with clean edges. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
