A kit of the British two-seat reconnaissance biplane B.E.2c of the First World War in 1:32 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The B.E.2c came from the British state design establishment Royal Aircraft Factory, which is what the abbreviation in the name denotes; it has nothing to do with the later Royal Air Force. The aircraft was deliberately designed to fly straight of its own accord: it had generous wing dihedral and large tail surfaces, so the observer could attend to the map and the camera instead of the controls. It was powered by an air-cooled V8 whose cylinders projected on either side of the nose.
The very stability that made the aircraft an excellent observation platform cost it dearly over the front. Slow and unwieldy, it could not evade German fighters and in 1915 it became a rewarding target for them. At home over England, however, it proved itself again, on night searches for airships: long endurance and gentle handling were exactly what hunting a giant target in the dark called for.
Cut excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and level the surface by sanding; wash and degrease the parts before painting. Put the airframe together dry first. On this type take care with the wing dihedral, because it is the most conspicuous thing about the aircraft's silhouette and even a layman will notice a crookedly seated wing. Rig the wires only once the finish is done.
The set belongs in the hands of a modeler who likes First World War aircraft and is not afraid of a build in which the sequence is up to him. Paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
