A resin accessory for a model of the reconnaissance version of the Phantom II in 1:32 scale. It replaces the exhaust section of both engine nacelles. The manufacturer is Aires, which has long specialized in resin detail sets for aircraft kits. The package does not hold a model of the aircraft, as it is a part for a kit already bought.
In 1:32 scale all the shortcomings of the exhaust section grow to the point where they cannot be overlooked. The thickness of the nozzle edge, softly molded petals and a parting line led across the center are among the most common complaints against injection-molded kits in exactly this scale. A resin replacement is therefore one of the first accessories builders of large models reach for. Count on the fact, though, that the parts in this scale are heavy and will noticeably weigh the tail of the model down. If your kit stands on its nose gear on the edge of stability, add ballast in the nose before you close the fuselage.
Wash the parts free of mold release agent and let them dry thoroughly. On large castings, cut the casting block off in stages rather than in one cut, otherwise a thin wall may crack. True the mating surface by sanding and always try the fit dry. Glue with super glue, and on a large mating surface the gel version helps. Paint the internal surfaces of the nozzles before seating them. Metallic shades stand out on a smooth gloss base, which also makes the surface more resistant to rubbing while a large model is handled further.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and unassembled. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Please check that it matches your own particular kit.
