A set of turned metal parts for Spitfire kits in the large 1:32 scale. According to its name it contains the barrels of the Hispano cannons of 20 mm caliber and of the Browning machine guns of 12.7 mm caliber, including the fairings in the early conical form. It is not a model of the aircraft but a replacement for the armament parts projecting from the leading edge of the wing. The target kit is the Tamiya one.
The wing designated as type E combined a cannon of 20 mm caliber with a machine gun of 12.7 mm caliber on each side, that is two different calibers in one wing. The fairings through which the barrels projected were conical on the early machines; rounded ones were used later. The difference is clearly visible on a large model, which is why the manufacturer lists both forms as separate sets. This one matches the early conical form.
The combination of two different calibers in one wing means you have to watch which part belongs where; sort the parts as soon as they come out of the package and do not work with them over an open table, where they will be lost. Metal fairings combine very well with etched sets, because both are glued with cyanoacrylate and take the same degreasing. The procedure: cut off the plastic, level the mating surface, fit dry, check the angle against the axis of the aircraft and only then glue. Before painting, degrease the whole spot with alcohol and apply a primer for metal; otherwise the transition between metal and plastic shows through once it dries.
This is an accessory to a kit, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
