A figure of an American woman mechanic in 1:32 scale from Black Dog, marked in the name as the first number of the sub-range. Women worked in aircraft workshops and on assembly lines on a large scale, yet they appear in modeling scenes only rarely, so such a figure gives a scene a subject that will not be repeated any time soon.
The figure suits an interior scene just as well as an open apron. In a workshop scene a workbench with a vise works, a shelf of spare parts, a cable run out or a panel taken off and propped against the wall; outdoors it is a ladder at the fuselage and tools laid out on a tarpaulin. An interior scene has one more advantage that modelers underrate: walls let you aim the light, and the figure then stands out in the display case instead of being lost in even illumination.
The overalls are a large unbroken surface and so they need careful handling. A single flat shade looks like a plastic shell; you can bring it alive by mixing a little of a lighter tone into the base and going lightly over the surfaces between the folds, while darkening the folds themselves with a glaze. Paint the metal details, buckles and buttons last with the tip of a fine brush. Leave the footwear more matte than the overalls; a difference in sheen reads better on a figure than a difference in shade.
