1:35 Street Name Signs D - Spanish

Street Name Signs D - Spanish decals in 1:35 scale

The set 1:35 Street Name Signs D - Spanish is an accessory for a diorama, not a kit. Its contents are decals with street name signs in the Spanish style. The name gives the scale of 1:35 and the letter D, by which the individual language areas are told apart in this series. You therefore choose by where your scene is meant to be set.

What the set is for

Spanish, and Iberian streets in general, have a hand of their own, and a sign with a street name is one of the first details a viewer notices on a diorama. They go onto the render of a corner house, onto the wall by an archway or onto a post of their own. For a modeler it is an easy way to anchor a scene in a particular country without having to build more buildings. The 1:35 scale is the most widespread for dioramas with figures and vehicles, so the set will find a place in a civilian and a military scene alike, from a prewar town to a present-day street.

How to work with the decals

• Level the surface under the decal and coat it with a gloss varnish; on a rough surface air is held under the film and the motif silvers.
• Cut the motif out as close to the edge as you can, so that the least possible carrier film is left.
• Let the decal soak in lukewarm water only until it can be moved, and slide it into place with a brush.
• A decal softener will help the motif settle into seams and unevenness; blot the excess water off with a cloth.
• Once fully dry, even the surface out with a matte varnish and add a patina, so that the sign does not look new.

Who the set is for

• Builders of dioramas in 1:35 with a Spanish or Latin American setting
• Modelers who want to set a backdrop apart from ordinary anonymous buildings
