About product

Quickboost 1:48 Fw 190D-9 — the air intake (resin)

This is not an aircraft kit. It is an accessory for a kit: a resin part which on the Fw 190D-9 model in 1:48 scale takes the place of the kit air intake. The set is intended for the kit from Eduard. The model itself is not included in the package and you have to own it. The Quickboost range comes from the resin workshop Aires and rests on a simple idea: a quick intervention with a big visual effect.

Why the intake gets replaced at all

An injection-molded plastic part is made in a mold that has technological limits — the intake tends to be blanked off or to have thick walls, and viewed close up it is obvious that it leads nowhere. The resin replacement is cast with thin walls and an open, through-flowing mouth, so the intake looks like a real duct drawing in air. It is a detail that catches the eye at once on a finished model, because it lies right on the silhouette of the nose.

The real subject

The Fw 190D-9, nicknamed the Dora, is a late version of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190. Unlike the original machines of the A series with a radial engine, it was given the Jumo 213 V12 engine, which called for a markedly lengthened nose — hence the German nickname Langnasen-Dora, the long-nosed Dora. That stretched nose is the main visual feature by which the D-9 differs at first sight from the common A series machine. The Dora was among the high-performing German fighters of the closing stage of the Second World War.

Usage tips

Cut the part off the casting block with a fine saw, sand the mating surface and wash the part in warm water with a detergent — that removes residues of mold release agent on which the paint would not hold. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), as an ordinary cement for plastic does not dissolve resin. Apply a primer before painting. Sand resin wet and with respiratory protection.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Fw 190D-9 in 1:48 who want to remove the most conspicuous weakness of the molding
  • Modelers looking for the maximum effect for a minimum of time
  • Those who are ready to bond resin with super glue

The set is an accessory for a kit. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. It is a resin replacement part — an air intake — for an existing Fw 190D-9 kit in 1:48 scale. You have to have the aircraft model of your own, it is not in the package.

The set is intended for the Fw 190D-9 kit in 1:48 from Eduard. Quickboost releases intake versions for the individual manufacturers separately, so make sure before buying that the kit you are building is the Eduard one.

With super glue (cyanoacrylate). An ordinary cement for plastic models does not dissolve resin, so it will not hold. Wash the part in warm water with a detergent before painting and apply a primer.

Yes. It is enough to cut the part off the casting block, sand the mating surface and glue it on. The difficulty is low and the effect on the finished model is high.
