1:48 F4J Phantom engine from Black Dog is a resin engine set for a model of the F-4J Phantom II carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It is a detail accessory, not an aircraft kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This resin set from Black Dog brings the engine of the F-4J Phantom II carrier fighter in a very fine casting. A part like this comes into its own wherever you want to show more than just a closed fuselage, that is on a model with the panels open or in a scene with maintenance work. The package does not hold an aircraft model; it is assumed that you already have the plastic kit in 1:48 scale.
The F-4J was the version of the Phantom II for the US Navy and the Marine Corps, deployed from the second half of the 1960s. It was powered by a pair of J79 turbojets with afterburners, whose characteristic trail of smoke behind the aircraft became its recognition mark. The Phantom was a large, heavy and exceptionally powerful machine that managed the role of fighter as well as attack aircraft, and the powerplant is the thing on it that makes an impression even outside the airframe. An engine displayed beside a model is therefore a rewarding subject.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry thoroughly. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and level the surfaces with wet sandpaper, with respiratory protection. It is joined with super glue; ordinary cement for plastic does not hold here. An engine looks best in graded metallic shades: cooler tones on the compressor case, warmer and heat-tinted toward the nozzle. Bring the differences between the panels out with a dark wash and run a dry brush along the edges. Cables and lines can be brought to life with small touches of color.
