The T-34 is a Soviet medium tank which became one of the symbols of the Second World War and is among the most popular subjects in modeling. This item captures it at the end of its road: the subject is a destroyed machine forming a diorama base in 1:35 scale.
A base is the starting point of a scene. It saves the work on the terrain and offers right away a centerpiece around which the story can be built, whether it is a display-case vignette taken in at a glance or a more extensive diorama. The dimensions, the number of parts and the degree of surface work are given in the manufacturer's instructions; from them you can tell how much room will be left around it for figures and other accessories.
Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the surface down. Before painting, wash the whole thing, degrease it and prime it. Without a primer the paint takes badly on a smooth surface and is easily rubbed off during further work. Build the rust up in layers of thinned paint, from dark shades to lighter ones, add dust and deposits with pigments only at the end and match the color of the area around the wreck to the surroundings of the scene.
The base will be used by builders of dioramas in 1:35 scale who want to give their time to painting, figures and detail instead of modeling terrain. A wreck in the base also gives the scene scale, so even a single figure beside it tells a story at once. It will serve as a scene on its own in a display case as well. Figures, paints, pigments and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
