A figure set of a British mine-clearance team in Afghanistan in 1:35 scale from Black Dog. An unconventional subject from the fighting in Helmand, markedly different from ordinary infantry scenes.
Responsibility details are not available.
This figure set from Black Dog in 1:35 scale is devoted to British specialists in searching for mines and improvised explosive devices in Afghanistan. The designation team in the name distinguishes this item from those listed as a single figure. The subject is among the more unusual that can be found in the modern figure range.
In Helmand province British units bore the main burden of the fight against improvised explosive devices, which became the most frequent cause of casualties in the whole mission. Search teams advanced slowly, meter by meter, with a detector and with the utmost care; only behind them could the rest of a unit or a convoy pass. The work called for different stances and different equipment than an ordinary patrol: a stooped silhouette, concentrated movement and spacing between the members of the team. It is this dynamic that makes a scene with a search team very readable even for a viewer who knows nothing about modern military vehicles.
The key is the spacing and the turn of the figures: the group should look like a file, not a huddle. Keep the uniforms in a subdued sand and olive range and set them apart only in tone, not in contrast. Apply dust heavily to the footwear and the trouser legs, and only lightly higher up. Leave the base as empty as possible; loose earth, a rut and a few stones will do more for the atmosphere than a fence or a vehicle.
