A base for a figure with the motif of a stone staircase in a fantasy treatment, intended to be painted and to display a finished figure.
Responsibility details are not available.
A stone staircase as a base under a figure. Steps are among the most rewarding bases of all: they give a figure height, allow a natural stance with one foot higher, and in themselves tell that the figure is climbing or, conversely, descending. The fantasy treatment means that the steps are not regular as on a present-day staircase but worn, crumbled and of uneven height, so the scene looks old without a single added accessory.
First stand the figure on the base dry and look for a place where it stands stably and yet is not turned with its back to the viewer. Pinning the figure works well: drill a hole in the foot, glue a piece of wire into it and make a second hole in the base. The joint then holds far better than surface to surface, and while painting you can keep the figure and the base apart. Before you glue the figure on for good, go through the view from every side, including the view from above; with a staircase it is the view from above that decides whether the scene works.
Stone is painted from dark to light. Lay a dark base, let it dry and run a dry brush with a lighter shade across the edges of the steps, so that they come out. Flow a thin dark glaze into the joints and corners and let it run by itself. Finally add a little pigment where dust would settle in the corners. Choose subdued shades, so that a colorful figure on the base stands out.
The base is intended to be painted. Paints, pigments, glue, wire and other modeling aids are not supplied with it, unless stated otherwise.
