Modern American plastic water cans in 1:72

An accessory from SX-Art for 1:72 scale. According to the name these are ten pieces of a modern American plastic water can. The set serves to fit out finished vehicles and to build scenes around them; it is not a standalone model.

Where water cans are carried

With modern units a reserve of drinking and utility water is as much a matter of course as fuel. The cans are therefore carried in brackets on the sides of the bed, at the rear of armored vehicles, on cab roofs and stacked loose among the rest of the load. Ten pieces allow them to be spread over several vehicles of a convoy or assembled into a supply at a base while still keeping a reserve.

Painting and telling them apart from fuel cans

A plastic can is weathered differently from a sheet-metal one. There is no point in doing rust on it, but dust, mud splashes and light rubbing on the edges from handling do hold on the surface. In real service the vessels for water and for fuel tend to be set apart by color, so if you use both kinds in one scene, give them different shades. Markings written in by hand with a fine brush will lend the scene credibility better than any other detail. A pair of cans hung side by side also looks more natural than one lone piece.
