This plastic kit in 1:35 scale from the Polish maker IBG Models captures the Italian 3Ro heavy truck in the troop-carrying form. The model rests on new molds and it is completed by photo-etched parts and decals. Because of the busy frame, the well worked out engine and the opening hood and doors, the build is aimed rather at a more advanced modeler, but the result is an exceptionally detailed vehicle that stands up to a close look in a diorama.
The 3Ro was the main heavy truck of the Italian army during the Second World War. It was powered by a five-cylinder diesel engine and it was built in civil and military form from the end of the 1930s. Several thousand military examples came about in a whole range of conversions: a flatbed, a version for carrying troops, horse transport, a tank transporter and a tanker. The vehicles served in the Balkans, in North Africa and on the Eastern Front. After 1943 the German army took over a large part of them, and individual captured examples were also used by Allied units, including those in the desert.
Work from the chassis frame and the drivetrain, and seat the cab and the body only on a finished frame, so that the wheels stand level. Bend the fine photo-etched parts on a bending tool and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Paint the inside of the cab and of the body before you close them up or fill them. The basic shade of Italian vehicles tends to be a light sand, and on examples taken over by the German army dark yellow comes into consideration. A worn edge on the body, paint rubbed off the running boards and dust laid on with pigments on the wheels and the underside will make the model convincing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
