The combined item of the French repair subject, whose name refers to the year 1940. While the individual numbers of the same sub-range are sold separately, this package is carried as a set - you choose it when you want to obtain the scene around a broken-down vehicle all at once. The theme is non-combat: repair, maintenance and work around the vehicles will be appreciated by anyone who wants a diorama with a story and not just a vehicle on a base.
French armored vehicles of 1940 were not worse than the enemy's, but they paid for the organization. The vehicles were split up among infantry formations, the workshop support stayed far to the rear and could not catch up during the rapid retreat, so many machines ended up laid up because of a breakdown, an empty tank or a thrown track. The Char B1 bis was demanding on its powerplant and on fuel, while the Somua S35 and the light Renault and Hotchkiss types wore their commanders out with their one-man turrets. The work of the repairmen therefore took place right at the vehicle, with the engine deck hatches removed and the tools laid out on the ground.
With a multi-figure composition it is the arrangement that counts. Do not line the figures up side by side but give them roles: one works on the engine, another passes something or looks on. A triangular layout around one point reads more naturally than the symmetrical sides of a vehicle. Lay the assembly out dry and walk around it on all sides - what works from the front tends to be empty from the back. If you paint the figures yourself, tie them in at the end with a gentle dusting shared with the ground and the vehicle, so that the scene holds together as a whole.
