An injection-molded plastic kit of an artillery piece in 1:35 scale from the Polish maker IBG Models. It is a model of the gun with its carriage and shield in its own right, not a model of a vehicle. It will serve well as the main element of a small diorama, as an accessory to a model of an artillery tractor or as a display case item in its own right.
The 75 mm field gun model 1897 was the first series-produced quick-firing field gun with a hydropneumatic recoil system. After a shot the barrel returned to the firing position without the aim being disturbed, so the crew could fire in quick succession without aiming again. The weapon was used in both world wars and in a whole range of armies that took it from French stocks. The 1938 modification concerned above all the running gear: wheels with pneumatic tires and a modified carriage allowed towing by a motor tractor at a substantially higher speed than a horse team could manage. The barrel and the mechanism themselves stayed the same in principle.
The small parts of the carriage, the shield and the sight call for a sharp knife and a clean cut through the sprue gates; a fine file or a sanding sponge is enough for cleaning up. Glue with thin cement for polystyrene, which is drawn into the joint by capillary action and leaves no matte traces. Apply a base coat before painting, or the paint will hold poorly on smooth plastic. The wheels benefit from a different, less saturated shade of rubber and a light dusting with pigment at the contact patch. Bring the metal surfaces of the barrel and the breech out with a dry brush and darken the recesses of the carriage with a wash. Derive the particular shades and markings from the instructions in the package.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
